No dig – healthy soil, happy gardener

Charles Dowding, award-winning organic gardener, book author and creator of the “No Dig” method has a recommendation that will make all those looking to grow their own food very happy: leave your soil alone!

In this podcast he explains to us why that is, what’s most important for our soil to be healthy, how to treat it and how to achieve a bountiful harvest without using any chemicals.

We also get philosophical and talk about our food system, whether food security can be achieved through organic food production and the importance of educating youth.

Did you know that gardening can improve both your mental and physical health?

Tune in to find out how your gut is related to gardening, how the No Dig method works and more!

You can download the episodes of our podcast in audio format on all of the usual streaming platforms (Spotify, ApplePodcasts, you name it) or here.

So enlightening thank you. I have a very small garden, just a patch really but have fruit trees in tubs – so no dig there, too many roots – on which I put compost now and again. So far I havent managed to kill the trees – so not a so far very successful gardener, although organic and no pesticides etc.
My experience of buying organic avocados, oranges and lemons via Crowdfarming has been wonderful. The products are so different in freshness and taste to those I previously bought from supermarket here in UK, So much so that I am becoming addicted to avocados often having them for breakfast, lunch and dinner (not forgetting snacks) although this has eased somewhat with further deliveries!
I have just been reading about biodynamic farming in UK which allies with ‘no dig’. If Dutch farmers et al are being stopped from using chemical fertilisers this is great, leaves the gate open for them to use these sustainable methods you are adopting. I saw a YouTube video about one farmer out there who is using earth friendly sustainable by the plants/trees methods to grow food without any effort other than picking it off the trees.

I love the fact that with these new initiatives we are taking back control of how we want to live, and also forging happy connections with people in other countries nearby and hopefully these will put a stop to the warmongering that has gone on at the dictate of the politicians.

Hello Marian,

we are glad that you are not only so interested in sustainable agriculture, but also that you are hands-on and share your thoughts with us. We hope your trees will bear fruit soon!!! For everything else that is not (yet) thriving, you know where to find us 🤗

We wish you a good start to the week 🌺
